Culture & Ethics
Teachers have an understanding of all local and global societal issues, responsibilities, and ethical measures in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and proper behavior in their professional practices. Teachers:
a. advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources
b. address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies and providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources
c. promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information
d. develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital-age communication and collaboration tools

Reflection
As an educator it is essential to have a decent understanding of issues than can affect education such as culture, personal perspectives, experiences, and understanding the audience before you begin designing, implementing, and delivering any instruction. Ethics is important in education, especially ethics with technology. Internet safety is important when using technology in the classroom. Using technology tools can help the teacher meet all of the needs of the audience, that's why conducting learner analysis is essential. Without having a basic understanding of the learners' abilities, competencies, and skillsets when it comes to technology, how can an educator know which strategies and tools to choose for the instruction?
For IT 645 we had an assignment where we used GoogleDocs features, which include Google Slides, Survey, Docs and more. For this assignment we use Google Survey to form an understanding of our audiences technology competencies, related skillsets, and needs. Understanding what the background is of the audience allows for the teacher to provide the correct learning strategies, digital tools, and resources in their instruction. The survey also allowed for student input, which could provide the teacher with information from the students in regard to cultural differences and personal perspectives regarding technology. This survey also uses Google so it is a safe place for students to interact with their classmates accordingly.
IT 755 web development and assessment had us create a web design guide which was used as an assessment tool during the course. Creating this assignment offers students the ability to obtain experience related to proper online etiquette when collaborating with group members in a technology setting. This allows for students to use digital age communication tools.
IT 648 included an assignment that had the students research and evaluate different communication tools for use in asynchronous and synchronous settings. The tool needed to be culturally fit for use across the board as well as nurturing communication by the students and parents. My group and I were to try out each others digital tools and write a reflection about our experiences. This project allowed me to be introduced to many different communication tools and learn their functions. Using communication tools in education is essential since technology is such a huge part of instruction.
Future Learning Goals
As an educator in the future I hope to expand my knowledge and experience using the different methods available that contribute to positive outcomes related to collaboration and communication, especially in online learning. When collaboration with others in an online setting is applied properly, positive learning outcomes can be obtained. Online learning and its related communication barriers will always be a hot topic with educators and instructional designers, but choosing communication tools that promote positive etiquette and at the same time fit the needs of the audience, help ensure success.
